Steven D. Chinn, DPM, MS, Consultant, Joint Commission Resources, Inc.

Dr. Chinn has more than 20 years of clinical and management experience in acute and family care settings. He serves as a faculty member for the Department of Education and is involved with educational presentations for hospital, ambulatory and network accreditation standards, performance improvement, and medical staff issues.  

Dr. Chinn has served as a faculty member at the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine; California College of Podiatric Medicine, San Francisco, California; and Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Palo Alto. He is also a noted presenter at many health care conferences on ambulatory, acute care, and managed care topics. He has published numerous articles and book chapters on accreditation, practice management, compliance, and business development issues. 

Dr. Chinn has been a Joint Commission surveyor for the ambulatory, hospital, behavioral health care, and network programs. He also has expertise as an auditor for the California Department of Corporation health plan survey program. Dr. Chinn also has expertise as a medical consultant for the Northern California Medicare program. 

Dr. Chinn has held many positions of esteem including Assistant Administrator, Quality and Safety, Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Redwood City, California; Chief, Quality Management, VA Palo Alto Health Care System in Palo Alto, California; Director, Performance Improvement and Regulatory Compliance, Fremont Hospital in Fremont, California; and Vice President and Dean for Clinical Affairs, Pacific Coast Hospital and California College of Podiatric Medicine, San Francisco, California. 

His consulting skills for ambulatory, acute care, and network organization lie in the areas of organizational assessment, survey preparation, performance improvement, managed care, medical staff, human resources and staff competency, and business development. 

Dr. Chinn received a Master of Science degree in Medical Education and Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from California College of Podiatric Medicine, San Francisco, California; and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts, Ameherst, Massachusetts. He also received a Certificate in Project Management from Villanova University, Villanova, Pennsylvania. 

His professional affiliations include Journal for Healthcare Quality, Editorial Board; American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics; American College of Healthcare Executives; American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedists; and National Association for Healthcare Quality. He is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, and Certified Healthcare Executive.
