4th Annual Joint Commission Conference on Behavioral Health Care: From Ethics to Evidence: Supporting Behavioral Health Care Decision Making

Program Summary
An emphasis on quality care and client safety permeates the behavioral health care field. Engaging clients and their families in thoughtful decision making processes is a crucial factor in generating the desired outcomes of care.   How those processes are conducted rely on any number of factors including the evidence that supports the selected interventions, professional ethics that provide a guide and framework for professional conduct in providing services and the availability of resources.  The factors that drive the decision making process provide the foundation for the Fourth National Conference on Behavioral Health Care. The conference will address both the theoretical frameworks and the practical application of strategies and models to improve client safety and care and to meet the demands of accountability

The conference format offers current, cutting edge topics with follow up tracks dedicated to the practical application in a range of settings and population groups. The expert faculty include thought leaders and hands-on clinicians drawn from psychology, social work, academe and the law. Research poster and storyboard presentations representing forward-thinking and innovative organizations extend the opportunity to learn about good practices and to network with peers.

Objectives
At the end of this conference, attendees will be able to:
  • Compare and contrast the role that professional ethics plays in determining client’s rights and in behavioral health care providers’ decision making
  • Examine clients’ rights and how the mentally ill are viewed from multiple professional perspectives to better assess the impact on clients
  • Evaluate the benefits and challenges associated with Integrating behavioral health care into primary care to better assess how the concept may be implemented
  • Analyze how benchmarking and outcomes measurement are used to drive decision making in behavioral health care
  • Discuss the use of benchmarking, outcomes measurement and the use of evidence as they are applied in diverse settings and assess the impact of using data to improve provider performance and enhance client outcomes
Target audience
The conference will be of interest to those across the behavioral health care continuum including psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses, physicians, administrators, and quality improvement and risk management professionals while educators and researchers will also find the program of interest.
