You will also hear about the recent adoption by CMS of the 2012 Life Safety Code® from the NFPA, and subsequently The Joint Commission’s adoption of the code in its Environment of Care and Life Safety standards.
 
After completing this activity, the participant should be able to:
  • Identify changes related to Project REFRESH and the 2012 Life Safety Code® for 2018
  • Describe 2018 updates and revisions to the standards in each chapter
  • Discuss strategies to meet those standards identified as challenging

Because regulations and guidelines do change, it is a good idea to check for updates from your state, county or city on a regular basis and always before registering for a specific course to make sure it will be acceptable for your license/certification renewal

Summary of Continuing Education contact hours awarded for this program:

The Joint Commission is accredited to provide continuing education credit/hours by the following organizations:

JOINT ACCREDITATION (ACCME, ANCC, ACPE):
The Joint Commission is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

ACHE:
Joint Commission is authorized to award pre-approved ACHE Qualified Education credit for programs toward advancement, or recertification in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Participants in select programs wishing to have the continuing education hours applied toward ACHE Qualified Education credit must self-report their participation. To self-report, participants should log into their MyACHE account and select ACHE Qualified Education Credit.

CA Board of Registered Nursing:
Joint Commission Resources is provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 6381 for the listed contact hours.

CJCP® (Certified Joint Commission Professional®):
To obtain CJCP credit hours, individuals must first be certified before they may start acquiring CJCP credit hours. CJCP credit hours will not be retroactive. CJCP professionals are required to maintain 30 CJCP credit hours within their three-year certification period.

Criteria for Successful Completion:

  • Full attendance at every session is a prerequisite for receiving full continuing education credits
  • Completion of program evaluation form
  • NOTE: For Pharmacists, you will be required to provide your NAPB # and DOB (MM/DD)

The Joint Commission maintains control over all continuing education content provided to ensure content integrity and minimize educational bias.  All education planners, faculty, content reviewers, authors and other involved with continuing education activities disclose any influencing relationships, or lack thereof including financial or commercial interests. What is a Continuing Education Unit?
Through the Continuing Education Unit System, you receive formal recognition for improving your knowledge and skills by completing Joint Commission seminars.

Under the CEU system, one unit is awarded for completion of 10 hours of participation in our seminars and conferences in an organized, continuing education experience that provides responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction.

What does the CEU mean to you and your career?
You receive immediate recognition for your career development efforts. A CEU certificate suitable from framing will be sent to you upon satisfactory completion of the Joint Commission seminar you have attended.

The CEU system…

  • Allows you to build a permanent record of achievement as you take part in education or training to further your career.
  • Provides a means for showing supervisors, personnel officers and others an official document that shows you have completed a seminar as part of your preparation for wider responsibilities and higher-level positions.
  • Offers a means for giving official confirmation of your completion of continuing professional education seminars to certification bodies, licensing boards and professional societies.
