(Oak Brook, Ill.-October 16, 2007) Joint Commission Resources (JCR) today announced the launch of a new consulting program to help hospitals improve the credentialing and privileging process for physicians. JCR is a not-for-profit affiliate of The Joint Commission.
The new service recognizes the impact of credentialing and privileging on the quality and safety of care provided to patients and the fact that credentialing and privileging is rapidly moving from a subjective process to an objective measurement of clinical performance against benchmarked data. To successfully make this transition, hospitals and medical staff leaders must engage physicians to identify measures that address recognized general competencies and performance of ongoing professional practice.
The framework for JCR's credentialing and privileging consulting service is based on new medical staff standards introduced by The Joint Commission for 2007-2008. The consulting service is designed to provide hospitals with an evidence-based portfolio of indicators that are linked to privileges; tools to strengthen systems related to credentialing and privileging; data sources to objectively measure medical staff performance; and compliance assessment strategies.
