Summer is winding down, and flu season is approaching. And so is the launch of the 3rd annual Flu Vaccination Challenge, a nationwide effort to encourage health care workers to get vaccinated against the flu. Over one thousand health care organizations have participated in the campaign each year.

We are thrilled to announce the results from last year’s Challenge: participating health care organizations reached 76 percent vaccination. This is a 13 percent increase from the previous year’s Challenge, and 27 percent above the national average! Over one million health care workers were vaccinated against seasonal flu as part of the Challenge. While the results are impressive, there is still room for improvement.

JCR has raised the bar this year, challenging health care organizations to raise their vaccination to 75, 85 or 95 percent among their staff (bronze, silver and gold, respectively).

Join this year’s Flu Vaccination Challenge! Flu vaccination can benefit you, your family and your patients – especially those at higher risk for flu complications, such as adults 65 years and older and people with chronic medical conditions. This year’s seasonal flu vaccine also includes the 2009 H1N1 flu strain. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), annual flu vaccination is the most effective method for preventing flu virus infection and its complications.
