Richard Scalenghe has extensive experience in clinical health care in hospital and behavioral health care settings and has worked for The Joint Commission and JCR since 1984. Mr. Scalenghe has special expertise in behavioral health care and performance improvement. His ability to integrate organization development theory and practice into his consultation style makes him an excellent resource.
He held former positions with The Joint Commission and JCR in the Department of Education, Associate Director for the Department of Standards, and Surveyor with the Hospital and Behavioral Health Care programs.
Since 1996, Mr. Scalenghe has worked as a consultant for JCR including the Continuous Service Readiness® (CSR) Program. Mr. Scalenghe’s CSR work includes providing ongoing consultation to organizations in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Delaware, New Jersey, West Virginia and Rhode Island. He also had provided consultation to numerous ambulatory programs as part of the Bureau of Primary Healthcare initiative.
He currently serves as faculty for The Joint Commission Field Education Seminars and is a nationally known presenter at conferences and workshops.
Prior to his affiliation with The Joint Commission and JCR, he developed, executed and evaluated individual and group therapies to improve patient functioning on medical, rehabilitation, behavioral health and hospice units at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois. At Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s, Mr. Scalenghe assisted in the design and administration of a geriatric psychiatric unit. His responsibilities included operational oversight include staffing, competence assessments, strategic planning, integrating the unit into the hospital’s management structures and processes.
Mr. Scalenghe completed course work for a master’s degree in psychopathology at the University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois. He is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), National Association Healthcare Quality. He is also a Joint Commission-certified Yellow Belt.
