Jane R. Schetter, RN, MSN, CNS, CPCS

She served as Vice President for Patient Care and Standards at Fostoria Community Hospital, Fostoria, Ohio for five years, where she also served as Associate Director of Quality, Director of Rehabilitation Services and Director of Human Resources, establishing appropriate policies and reviewing and revising the job descriptions, responsibility statements, and the competence evaluation process for the organization. Prior to her primary responsibilities for acute care, Mrs. Schetter was responsible for the development of a Medicare Home Care Agency, a Community-Based Home Care Maintenance Program and an Infusion Therapy Program. While working on continuity of care and discharge planning projects for the hospital, Mrs. Schetter developed proposals for continuity of care and transportation grants that were funded as part of federal and state rural health grants. Prior to her work with Fostoria Community Hospital, Mrs. Schetter was unit manager and staff nurse at Visiting Nurse Service, in Toledo, Ohio.
Mrs. Schetter served as a Joint Commission surveyor for 15 years and is trained in the Accreditation Manuals for Ambulatory Care, Home Care, Long Term Care, Behavioral Health, and Hospitals, including Critical Access Hospitals. Combining her experience with home care and hospitals, in 1996 and 1997 Mrs. Schetter assisted in the development and piloting of The Joint Commission integrated survey process for small and rural hospitals. In 2002, she assisted in the piloting of the Shared Visions-New Pathways survey process and education of surveyors. In 2002-20003, she assisted with the education of CSR regional representatives and JCR consultants regarding Shared Visions/New Pathways and tracer methodology.
Mrs. Schetter has also held adjunct faculty positions at the Medical College of Ohio and has served as preceptor for students from Lourdes College, Graceland College and the Medical College of Ohio. She is also licensed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and is a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist.
Mrs. Schetter developed the Ohio Hospital Association’s Continuous Service Readiness Program and continues to serve as their lead JCR consultant. She also works with CSR organizations in several other states. Mrs. Schetter also serves as faculty for JCR’s Publications and Education Resources Department programs. She has been a contributor to several JCR publications.
She received a bachelor of arts degree in music and psychology at Mary Manse College in Toledo, Ohio; a bachelor of science degree in nursing at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio; and a master of science degree in nursing at the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo completing dual tracks with specialties in Community Health and Healthcare Management. She completed research related to preventing re-hospitalizations through discharge planning and home care.
Mrs. Schetter is affiliated with Sigma Theta Tau, the American Nurse Association, the Ohio Nurse Association, Ohio Association of Medical Staff Services (OAMSS) and the National Association of Medical Staff Services (NAMSS). She previously served as a member of the Ohio Department of Health’s Ohio Stoke Council and reviewer for their publication The Burden of Stoke in Ohio.
Jane Schetter brings demonstrated expertise as a nursing executive, risk manager, human resource director, performance improvement specialist and medical staff coordinator to her role as a consultant for Joint Commission Resources and to her role as Continuous Service Readiness Consultant.
