Product Code: EDU1041
In March 2010, The Joint Commission Standards and Survey Procedures (SSP) Committee approved significant updates and revisions to the current “Provision of Care, Treatment and Services" (PC) standards for behavioral health care, which become effective January 1, 2011. The revisions provide more contemporary and relevant standards to organizations accredited through the Joint Commission’s Behavioral Health Care Accreditation Program.
The new Care, Treatment and Services chapter is the next iteration of provision of care standards designed to capture relevant issues and contemporary practices. The revised chapter now includes specific expectations for eating disorder treatment, outdoor/wilderness programs, and animal-assisted treatment. It also incorporates–for the first time–recovery concepts in the assessment, planning, and delivery of care, treatment and services.
New requirements in the updated CTS chapter focus on the following areas:
- Care, treatment and services for individuals with eating disorders
- Care, treatment and services for young adults>/LI>
- Management of waiting lists
- Use of animals in therapy
- Psychiatric advance directives
- Outdoor and wilderness programs
- Physical holding of children and youth
- Assessing outcomes of care, treatment or services
In addition, revisions to several other current standards Screening and assessment, Physical pain screening, assessment and management, Time-outs, Level systems, Abuse, neglect, or exploitation and Planning for care, treatment or services will be addressed and reviewed. This program will be presented by The Joint Commission's behavioral health care leadership, responsible for the development of the new Care, Treatment and Services Chapter and other 2011 updated standards.
