Advanced Emergency Management
In 2009, Emergency Management will become a separate chapter, as a result of the Standards Improvement initiative. This new 1.5 day seminar will provide a thorough discussion of the new Joint Commission standards related to emergency management and how they are operationalized. The discussions will reflect an “all-hazards” approach to emergency preparedness that permits appropriately flexible and effective responses. This highly interactive workshop will lead you through case studies in small group discussions to help illustrate the necessary elements in planning for emergency response. You will return with the following:
• Strategies for testing response plans for evaluation and program improvement.
• Tools to identify the new Joint Commission requirements for emergency management and how to demonstrate compliance
• Action plan for changes they need to make to their emergency operations plans
Attendees should have a thorough understanding of emergency management standards prior to enrolling in this seminar.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, you will be able to:
• Describe the six critical areas of emergency management
• Conduct and complete a Hazard Vulnerability Analysis and take top priorities through mitigation, preparation, response and recovery
• Apply all Environment of Care Elements of Performance into the Emergency Operations Plan
• Critique an emergency exercise within a healthcare organization, to identify strategies for performance improvement
Target Audience:
Hospital, critical access hospital and long term care professionals responsible for the coordination and activation of emergency management plans

Joint Commission Resources is authorized to award 10 contact hours of pre-approved Category II (non-ACHE) continuing education credit for this program toward advancement, or re-certification in the American College of Healthcare Executives. Participants in this program wishing to have the continuing education hours applied toward Category II credit should indicate their attendance when submitting application to the American College of Healthcare Executives for advancement or re-certification.
On Day 1, program runs from 8:00 am- 4:00 pm. On Day 2, the program runs from 8:00 am – 12 noon.
