Kevin Marvin is a national leader in pharmacy informatics. Mr. Marvin has been involved in pharmacy information systems for 30 years. He has experience in all facets of medication information technology including retail pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, software development, product management, information systems administration and consulting.

 

His health system experience includes University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, Health Alliance of Cincinnati, Fletcher Allen Healthcare in Burlington, Vermont, The NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland and The Long Island Patient Information Exchange (LIPIX), a RHIO located on Long Island, New York. He has installed or managed pharmacy systems developed by GE, McKesson, Eclipsys, Misys, Mediware, Cardinal and Epic. Mr. Marvin has also worked as product director and development manager for three health care software companies.

 

Mr. Marvin has contributed chapters on safe use of technology and electronic prescribing for two books published by ASHP and a book published by American Pharmacy Association (APHA).

 

As a consultant, Mr. Marvin is currently Project Director of the orders, pharmacy and oncology installation of the Epic EHR at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He previously has worked as project manager for the install of the pharmacy component of an EHR at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and has consulted in support of the install and configuration of an EHR at Fletcher Allen Healthcare in Burlington, Vermont. Kevin’s consulting work has also included development of a medication management strategy for Long Island Patient Information Exchange, a patient information exchange supporting Nassau and Suffolk Counties at Long Island, New York.

 

Mr. Marvin earned a pharmacy degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, as well as a MS degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His expertise is in the design, development and implementation of automation and information system tools to support safety, efficiency and profitability in the medication use process.

 

Mr. Marvin is a fellow at both American Society of Health System Pharmacy (ASHP) and Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and received the Distinguished Service Award from the ASHP Pharmacy Informatics Section in 2008. He is currently a member of the HIMSS Patient Safety and Quality Outcomes Committee and ASHP Council on Public Policy.
