Patrick Smith currently serves as the Chief Medical Officer at Arrowhead Hospital in Glendale, Arizona. Arrowhead Hospital is part of the Abrazo Healthcare System in Phoenix, Arizona, and a subsidiary of Vanguard Health Systems of Nashville, Tennessee. In his role, Dr. Smith has responsibility for all quality initiatives such as core measures, all performance improvement efforts such as prevention of falls, decubitus ulcer, ventilator-associated pneumonia, central line-associated bloodstream infections, and Foley catheter-associated urinary tract infections. He directs the office of Professional Medical Staff Relations in charge of all credentialing and privileging of the medical staff, as well as peer review. He is also President and CEO of Patamra, a medical device and innovation company.

Dr. Smith has 25 years of experience as a general surgeon. He has held numerous leadership positions including CEO of a multi-specialty clinic. He has served as Chief of Surgery, Chief of Staff, Medical Director, and Chief Medical Officer for Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital, a 330-bed tertiary referral hospital in Tucson, Arizona. He has served as a Trustee and been on the Executive Committee for the Board of Directors of the Carondelet Health System.

Dr. Smith has a master of business administration degree from the Eller School of Management at the University of Arizona. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Dr. Smith is married with four children and enjoys woodworking in Mesquite, fishing, golf, and off-roading in the Arizona desert.
