I´d like to know if those who have implemented active screening for MRSA and VRE are thinking about stopping the initiative.

Great question. Unfortunately I don't know if organizations are backing off of active surveillance programs. Some States, such as Illinois require active surveillance; some organizations survey selected high risk populations and others all patients. I will look into this. Thanks for asking. Barb

Thanks Barb,
we started to discuss this topic after reading some expert opinion.
Some of us consider it necessary because it could be said that after the implentation there were no more MRSA  infections at the ICU but there are MRSA surgical site infections. More over the hand hygiene adherence is far from perfect.
Those who consider that the initiative is not cost effective are thinking about stopping.
Thank you again,
Viviana

I'd like to know how others are approaching decolonization regimens while treating active MRSA skin infections.  Decolonize at that time or don't?  thanks.

Thank you for this excellent question. Generally, most people wait until after the end of treatment to decolonize, especially if a patient has an open wound, the use of a topical antiseptic (like CHG), which is often part of a decolonization regimen, might be irritating to the wound. Thank you again.
