Ms. Westergaard presented information on applying the Joint Commission standards and NPSGs to hospitalized pediatric patients and their family members. The discussion looked at ways in which organizational leadership and staff can effectively provide care in areas of environment of care; emergency management; infection, prevention and control; leadership; medication management; National Patient Safety Goals; performance improvement; and rights of the pediatric patient.
Real life case studies presented examples of how organizations have implemented measures to improve pediatric care, including situations involving the family unit and patient family centered care. The focus of the presentation was on the inpatient care setting.
