With the increase of violent crimes in health care institutions today, it is imperative that health care staff and security personnel provide safety and security for all patients, visitors and staff within the walls of a health care institution, as well as on the grounds.This Sentinel Event Alert issued by The Joint Commission specifically addresses assault, rape or homicide of patients and visitors perpetrated by staff, visitors, other patients, and intruders to the institution.
