Implementing the National Patient Safety Goals

This program provides an overview of the 2009 NPSGs and focuses on those goals that are the most challenging for organizations across all accreditation programs to meet. Areas of focus include: communication issues, medication reconciliation, hand hygiene, and reducing falls. Discussion will focus on patient safety principles; developing measures for NPSGs; data collection and analysis; and the challenges, strategies, tips, and good practices for improving systems related to the most challenging NPSGs. The program includes discussion, case studies on good practice examples, take home tools, and the opportunity for participants to identify strategies they can immediately implement in their organizations.

Advanced Emergency Management Standards
Dates: January 29–30, 2009
Location: Oakbrook Terrace, IL

In 2009, Emergency Management will become a separate chapter in the manuals as a result of the Standards Improvement Initiative. This new 1.5 day seminar will provide a thorough discussion of the new Joint Commission standards related to emergency management and how they are operationalized. The discussions will reflect an “all-hazards” approach to emergency preparedness that permits appropriately flexible and effective responses. This highly interactive workshop will lead you through case studies in small group discussions to help illustrate the necessary elements in planning for emergency response. Attendees should have a thorough understanding of emergency management standards prior to enrolling in this seminar.

•    Strategies for testing response plans for evaluation and program improvement
•    Tools to identify the new Joint Commission requirements for emergency management and how to demonstrate compliance
•    Action plan for changes organizations need to make to their emergency operations plans
