Dr. Hamann’s health care experience has spanned 30 years and encompassed roles in private practice, hospital and business management, private sector consulting and leadership positions for the Minnesota Medical Association (MMA). In addition to his JCR activities, Dr. Hamann is Medical Director and serves as a board member for SAGE Health Management Solutions.

 

Prior to joining JCR, Dr. Hamann served as a Joint Commission surveyor. His MMA involvement included one year as chair of the Legislative Committee, two terms as chair of the Organized Medical Staff Section, followed by consecutive terms as vice president.

 

Dr. Hamann served as Vice President for Medical Affairs (VPMA) for six years at North Memorial Health Care in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. In this position he led efforts to revise the medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations and chaired the committee responsible for hospital quality improvement efforts and Joint Commission survey preparations. He developed an in-house training program for medical staff leaders and also facilitated the initiative to formalize the management of medical staff behavior issues. Dr. Hamann has spoken at multiple organizations on the physician’s role in health care organizations.

 

He co-founded The Minnesota Lung Center in Minneapolis retiring from practice in 1997.

 

Dr. Hamann has consulted with health care organizations on clinical pathway development and implementation, medical staff bylaws revision, and credentialing and privileging. His experience with quality improvement initiatives (CQI) led to opportunities to serve as a speaker for initial CQI efforts at several health care organizations.

 

Dr. Hamann is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed his internal and pulmonary medicine training through the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Hamann received a bachelor’s of science in biology from St. John’s University, Collegeville, MN; a master’s in physiology and pharmacology from the University of North Dakota; and a master’s in administrative medicine from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
