Susan Sheedy has more than 30 years of experience in hospital administration and nursing management and more than 10 years of management and executive experience in freestanding ambulatory surgery, ambulatory centers, physician practices, diagnostic facilities and rehabilitation hospitals, as well as in performing operational audits and developing action plans for all of the above.
Ms. Sheedy provides consulting for the hospital and ambulatory care programs. Her consulting expertise includes operational assessment; patient safety assessment; medication management; infection prevention and control; executive leadership and governing bodies; medical staff leadership; medical staff and senior executive dialogue; performance improvement; staffing firm certification; performance improvement; incorporating tracer methodology and the periodic performance review as management tools; electronic health record assessment; work redesign of all hospital clinical departments; and support services.
Ms. Sheedy teaches two-three seminars a year on medical staff credentialing and privileging for The Joint Commission and Joint Commission Resources and co-developed the current credentialing and privileging product offered by JCR. She also authored the credentialing and privileging manual for HEALTHSOUTH Corporate that was used by 500+ facilities during her employment there.
Ms. Sheedy has served as Associate Director, University of Alabama Hospitals, Birmingham, Alabama; Vice President, Patient Care and Support Services, Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana; Vice President, Patient Care, Baptist Health System, Birmingham, Alabama; and Vice President, Quality Standards,HEALTHSOUTH Corporate, Birmingham, Alabama. She also has been a family nurse practitioner at University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Community Health Center and South Hills Health System Homestead Hi-Rise Ambulatory Center. She also served on numerous Joint Commission advisory councils through 2003, and has been published seven times.
Ms. Sheedy received her bachelor’s of science in nursing from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and her master’s in public health from University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She participated in the Wharton Nurse Fellows Program, Wharton School of Business, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and is a Certified Practitioner in Healthcare Quality.
