Ms. Sims brings 30 years of health care experience to her role as a JCR consultant, including extensive experience in laboratory management and with Joint Commission standards and survey processes. Previously, she was a Joint Commission surveyor for the laboratory program, supervising the processing of reports, and providing standards interpretation for surveyors, accredited organizations, and other customers. Ms. Sims also has conducted field education programs on survey preparation and served as faculty for training newly hired Joint Commission surveyors and providing ongoing surveyor education.

Ms. Sims has expertise in pathology and clinical laboratory and performance improvement consulting. The skills she brings to her consulting position include providing consultation for both domestic and international laboratory accreditation; integrating laboratory services within the organization, coordinating blood bank and transfusion services, using Joint Commission standards to improve quality and efficiency of laboratory services, complying with CLIA regulations and Joint Commission standards; providing standards and survey process education and preparation, making performance improvement work efficiently for health care laboratories, and consulting on laboratory safety.

Ms. Sims received her Medical Technology degree from the University of North Dakota, and is a graduate of Loyola University, Chicago, Illinois. She has 11 years of experience as a medical technologist, including supervisory experience in automated chemistry and education coordination experience at the Swedish Hospital School of Medical Technology in Seattle, Washington, where she also served as an assistant laboratory manager and laboratory safety officer.
