Susan M. Slavish, MPH, CIC

Mrs. Slavish has more than 40 years of experience in health care, including 33 years in infection control in domestic health care settings and application of infection control principles in community settings. Before joining JCR, Mrs. Slavish served as lead infection control coordinator at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. She also served as the team leader for the organization’s 15-year-old post-exposure prophylaxis team which provided services to employees, physicians and students following a bloodborne pathogen exposure.  

 

Mrs. Slavish’s experience includes assisting a new acute care hospital on Oahu in the development of its infection prevention and control program, consulting with ambulatory surgery centers and clinical office practices regarding infection prevention and control and occupational exposure issues. She also served on the faculty of the Practical Nursing program at Kapiolani Community College (KCC) and the KCC Emergency Medical Technician training program where she provided the students with information on communicable disease exposures they might experience in their daily duties. 

 

Mrs. Slavish served on the board of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) including serving as the President of the Board in 2000. She has also served on numerous APIC national committees. She has served as the chair of the Medical Waste and the Mandatory Reporting of Healthcare Associated Infections task forces of the Healthcare Association of Hawaii.

 

Mrs. Slavish received her bachelor of science in nursing from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and her master of public health at the University of Hawaii, Manoa, Honolulu, Hawaii.

 

She is currently an active member of the Association of Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and APIC-Hawaii.
