Ms. Elizabeth Sutherland has been a registered nurse working in regulatory enforcement, nursing administration, quality clinical education, and research in a variety of inpatient settings.

Prior to joining Joint Commission Resources, Ms. Sutherland worked for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, serving as a State Surveyor where she conducted state and federal surveys in acute care hospitals, acute psychiatric and forensic facilities, critical access hospitals, emergency medical services for EMTALA regulations, ambulatory surgery centers and transplant programs. Ms. Sutherland's nursing experiences began with the University of Missouri School of Nursing where her positions included nurse educator, research nurse and acting member of the quality improvement program for Missouri (QIPMO) receiving an award for converting clinical research into practice from Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. As an employee with the university she also contracted as a quality educator for Primaris, the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for the state of Missouri. She successfully completed a one-year assignment with the Department of Veterans Affairs serving Veterans with direct supervision of seven specialty clinics. Later, as director of general medicine, she supervised the pharmacy, laboratory, and primary care for over 485 HIV/AIDS positive patients through grant writing and collaboration with area hospitals.

Ms. Sutherland provides consultative services to hospitals and skilled nursing facilities related to the federal survey process and compliance with federal Medicare regulations.
