Joint Commission, JCR Host Annual Hospital Executive Briefings

(Oak Brook, Ill.- July 18, 2013) This fall, The Joint Commission and Joint Commission Resources (JCR) will host the Hospital Executive Briefings conference to provide hospital leaders with news on important accreditation and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) updates, and effective health care quality improvement strategies for 2014. The briefings are held annually to help hospitals pursue the highest quality of care and patient safety possible for their patients. Hospital leaders across the country will have the opportunity to attend the 2014 Hospital Executive Briefings on Sept. 17, in Los Angeles, Calif.; Sept. 27, in Rosemont, Ill.; and Oct. 1, in New York, N.Y.

The 2014 Hospital Executive Briefings, Connect the Dots, will preview upcoming changes to how The Joint Commission will conduct its on-site surveys and review processes in 2014 from Barbara Buturusis, R.N., M.S.N., director, Surveyor Management and Support for The Joint Commission. Speakers Patricia Adamski, RN, M.S., M.B.A., director, Standards Interpretation Group, and George Mills, M.B.A., FASHE, CEM, CHFM, CHSP, director of engineering, of The Joint Commission will outline real life examples of clinical and environmental compliance challenges and provide best practices to address them.

In addition, presentations from other Joint Commission leaders, including Ana Pujols McKee, M.D., executive vice president and chief medical officer; Daniel J. Castillo, M.D., M.B.A., medical director, Division of Healthcare Quality Evaluation; and Ronald M. Wyatt, M.D., M.H.A., medical director, Division of Healthcare Improvement, will cover:

  • Joint Commission compliance strategies for licensed independent practitioner credentialing, privileging, and Focused Professional Practice Evaluation (FPPE) and Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE);
  • Methods to engage physician leaders and medical staff in quality and performance improvement activities; and
  • How Joint Commission standards align with CMS requirements, and what hospitals should expect during federal surveys in 2014.

Two 30-minute question-and-answer sessions will also be offered, featuring a panel of all the conference speakers.
