Joint Commission Resources Hosts New Event Specifically for Ambulatory Environments of Care

(Oak Brook, Ill. -August 15, 2013) This October, Joint Commission Resources (JCR), a not-for-profit affiliate of The Joint Commission, will host a brand-new seminar to address environment of care factors unique to ambulatory care settings. The seminar, EC Base Camp & Exploring the Life Safety Chapter for Ambulatory Care, will focus on critical information and strategies for compliance with The Joint Commission's Environment of Care and Life Safety standards chapters, as well as the National Fire Prevention Association's (NFPA) Life Safety Code®. This will be the first JCR event of its kind that will be dedicated solely to ambulatory health care settings and will take place on Oct. 15-16, at The Joint Commission's headquarters in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.
Each of the topics listed in the seminar's two-day agenda will be jointly presented by George Mills, M.B.A., FASHE, CEM, CHFM, CHSP, director of engineering, and Anne M. Guglielmo, CFPS, CHSP, LEED A.P., engineer, The Joint Commission. The goal of the seminar is to provide participants with the knowledge and tools needed to successfully:
Describe the fundamentals of the Environment of Care standards;
Apply techniques to manage the six different Environment of Care programs within an ambulatory health care organization;
Use management plans, annual evaluations, data collection tools and performance monitors for Environment of Care program enhancement;
Describe the accreditation survey process used to validate compliance with the Life Safety standards;
Review the core chapters of the NFPA Life Safety Code®;
Discuss how the Life Safety chapter is supported by the NFPA Life Safety Code®;
Analyze Joint Commission requirements for managing compliance with the Life Safety Code®; and
Review supporting NFPA documents, including Health Care Facilities, Fire Alarm Code and others.
In addition, Mills and Guglielmo will provide a 30-minute question-and-answer session at the end of each day.
