Virtual Advisory Services Frequently Asked Questions

Your organization probably already has the resources it needs for virtual advisory services. These resources include:

  • All locations and buildings participating in the engagement must be equipped with high-speed, wireless internet.
  • Camera, microphone and speakers that can be integrated into a laptop or tablet. A separate camera is not a requirement.
  • Mobile computers or tablets that can be used for the duration of the patient tracer activities.
  • JCR recommends assigning an IT point person to the engagement.

During a virtual engagement, our experts will conduct observations through Zoom technology (or other technology such as Microsoft Teams), which allows for remote video and audio. Patient records will be shared via Zoom screen sharing. There will be a test call scheduled before your engagement to make sure your team is comfortable with Zoom. Documents will be shared using our enterprise secure SharePoint for the document review portion of the engagement. Final reports and recommendations will also be shared through video conferencing so it can be interactive and engaging. The team leader will contact the hospital approximately two to four weeks prior to the virtual services to discuss and coordinate a mutually agreeable agenda. The team leader will identify those services/areas that need to be included in the review and will suggest staff who should be involved in each activity.

Virtual engagements are conducted using Zoom software. Zoom’s security guide can be found here. If your organization cannot use Zoom, alternative arrangements may be discussed. Documents will be shared using our enterprise secure SharePoint. An individual site will be set up for each engagement and then it will be deleted at the conclusion of the engagement. No audio or video recording of any kind is permitted during the engagement.

We can perform our entire portfolio of services, from custom education, to CMS support, to evaluation of standards compliance using a mock survey process.

Due to no travel costs, virtual engagements are a more economical approach.

A virtual engagement will deliver the same in-depth knowledge and services that an in-person engagement would deliver, it will just be delivered in a virtual format. Through technology and training, we have found an effective way for our experts to keep a personal connection with our customers.

Joint Commission Resources has been using virtual technologies to stay connected and conduct our own business for many years since our workforce is located across the United States. Since April, various virtual activities throughout The Joint Commission Enterprise has provided the opportunity to learn best practices from these engagements. We allow our customers to have flexibility to select the level of virtual technology that works best for them — fully virtual or hybrid. If you’ve used JCR advisory services in the past, you can be assured virtual services will deliver the same in-depth knowledge and experience.
