The Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety invites original manuscripts on the development, adaptation, and/or implementation of innovative thinking, strategies, and practices for improving quality and safety in health care. Original research reporting the development and implementation of programs or projects, studies on the effectiveness of improvement interventions, reports of new innovations or new applications of methodologies, and commentaries on issues and practices, among other article types, are all considered.

In addition to Original Articles—full-length descriptions of quality and safety programs, methods, or strategies, including the rationale, planning, implementation, evaluation, and lessons learned—the Journal also offers literature reviews as well shorter article types such as Innovation Reports, Improvement Briefs, Tool Tutorials, Conference Reports, Research Letters, and Commentaries.
