Background


Dr. Spada demonstrates over 50 years in the field of nursing and healthcare. She worked in both government and non-government run healthcare systems that encompassed a wide range of healthcare delivery areas such as acute care, long-term care, mental health, community-based clinics, and access.  She has a broad understanding of population health, quality and safety as it applies to health care delivery. She held leadership positions that maintained accreditation and has experience in developing solutions to complex healthcare situations. 

Dr. Spada has worked in multiple nursing roles from Pediatrics to trauma, to helping teach and mentor the first group of firemen to become Emergency Medical Techs through their Paramedic training, in the city of Boston.

While Dr. Spada began her career by graduating from a diploma hospital nursing program in Boston, MA, her career inspired her to study multiple areas of healthcare and to remain a strong mentor and supporter of the role of the nurse.

Dr. Spada role models both patient-centered care and collegial relationships within all disciplines in healthcare. Throughout her 30+ years working for the Department of Veterans Affairs, she established herself to be a strong, approachable, and visible leader.

Professional Experience


Dr. Spada has extensive work experience in healthcare.  She previously served in several nursing leadership roles in the Department of Veteran Affairs hospital system.  In her roles as both a Chief Nursing Officer, and Deputy Chief Nursing Officer, she ensured safe, quality, and positive clinical outcomes and compliance with regulatory standards.  She led nursing programs to meet national benchmarks in prescribed performance measures and was nationally recognized for her tenacity and dedication in achieving outstanding outcomes, providing quality care in all aspects of healthcare delivery. Dr. Spada has chaired multiple national committees and councils dedicated to nursing workforce development, enhancing access to rural areas and implementing tele-health in all areas possible.

Additionally, Dr. Spada served as a Quality Management Officer where she responsibly ensured the quality and safety of patient care delivery, throughout the majority of the state of Texas. Her expertise was recognized, and she assisted many other networks in achieving expected performance measures. During her time at the Department of Veterans Affairs she completed several leadership development programs that strengthened her leadership for improving the quality of care delivered.  With her background in leadership and training as an Advanced Practice Nurse, Dr. Spada mentored both clinical nurses and nursing leaders in Quality and Patient Safety.
