Dr. Julie Shinmoto Uyemura was a surveyor and medication compounding reviewer for The Joint Commission’s Home Care division for over 8 years. She became board certified in sterile medication compounding by The Board of Pharmacy Services in 2019. Dr. Uyemura is a Certified Yellow Belt trained in the foundational concepts and tools of problem solving, which makes improvements to better meet customer expectations and objectives.  With this designation, she supports The Joint Commission’s activities associated with establishing and sustaining a Robust Process Improvement® (RPI®) culture.
Dr. Uyemura has extensive knowledge of diverse pharmacy services, having worked in multiple healthcare settings including a leading medical center, national home infusion companies, privately owned home infusion companies and retail corporations.  She has held numerous key leadership positions, opened new pharmacy sites, integrated acquired units, built high-performing teams, and managed large regional markets.  Dr. Uyemura has successfully led many organizations through the accreditation process. Throughout her career, she continued to provide direct patient care in order to maintain her clinical skills and relevancy. In her role before joining The Joint Commission, Dr. Uyemura co-founded strateJEK associates, a healthcare consulting company which provided innovative management, clinical, strategic, and financial solutions to both business and non-profit sector clients. Dr. Uyemura volunteers as a clinical consultant pharmacist for ONEgeneration, a non-profit intergenerational enrichment center.
