(OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill.) The Joint Commission enterprise has received “Authorized Provider” accreditation from the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET). IACET Authorized Providers are the only organizations approved to offer IACET Continuing Education Units (CEUs). The accreditation period extends for five years, and includes all programs offered or created during that time. The accreditation is valid for education programs offered by The Joint Commission, Joint Commission Center for Transforming Healthcare, Joint Commission Resources and Joint Commission International.

With this accreditation, the enterprises’ continuing education programs are able to offer CEUs for licensure/certification requirements including physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, social workers, and many other specialties. In addition, because IACET is recognized by the American Society for Quality, the enterprise’s change management-related courses are eligible for CEUs from ASQ.

As a health care quality improvement organization we work with organizations and health care professionals around the world to help them improve the quality of care they provide to their patients. With this prestigious accreditation we are able to further the opportunities we provide to the health care industry and the dedicated individuals who deliver care,” says Mark. R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and chief executive officer, The Joint Commission. “Accreditation by IACET is a demonstration of our commitment to lifelong learning and high standards for all of our programs. We are very pleased to join such a prestigious organization as well as an elite group of organizations that offer excellent continuing education and training programs.

We are pleased to establish our relationship with The Joint Commission as an Authorized Provider,” stated Kristopher J. Newbauer, President of IACET and Director of Learning & Organization Development at Rotary International in Evanston, Ill. “The Joint Commission enterprise joins nearly 650 organizations around the globe that have had their programs vetted by third-party experts in continuing education to ensure the highest possible standards are met.

In order to achieve Authorized Provider accreditation, The Joint Commission enterprise completed a rigorous application process, including a review by an IACET site visitor, and successfully demonstrated adherence to the ANSI/IACET 1-2007 Standard addressing the design, development, administration, and evaluation of its programs. The Joint Commission enterprise has pledged its continued compliance with the Standard, and is now authorized to use the IACET name and Authorized Provider logo on promotional course material.  In addition, The Joint Commission is now linked to the IACET web site and is recognized as offering the highest quality continuing education and training programs.

IACET is a non-profit association dedicated to quality continuing education and training programs. IACET is the only standard-setting organization approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) for continuing education and training. The ANSI/IACET Standard is the core of thousands of educational programs worldwide.  For more information, please visit www.iacet.org or call 703-506-3275.

The Joint Commission is also recognized to offer CE/CME to physicians through the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, nurses through the American Nurses Credentialing Center, healthcare administrators through the American College of Healthcare Executives, and dieticians through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
