Background


Klaus Nether is the Executive Director, High Reliability Product Delivery at Joint Commission Resources working in High Reliability Services. He leads the delivery of products and services, ensuring that these adhere to high reliability principles and Robust Process Improvement (RPI) concepts. Dr. Nether is also responsible for solution development activities, both domestic and international. In this role, he is responsible for leading activities supporting the adoption of high reliability practices with hospitals and other healthcare settings such as ambulatory, behavioral health, and home health. This also includes the facilitation of the Oro (High Reliability) assessment, facilitation of the development and sustainment of an effective safety culture, training of staff in Robust Process Improvement (blended approach of Lean Six Sigma and formal change management), and training of staff in formal change management.

Professional Experience


Before joining The Joint Commission, Dr. Nether held a variety of clinical laboratory positions. Most recently he held the position of manager of the Olson Clinical Laboratories at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. He was responsible for six departments including Immunology, Microbiology, and Diagnostic Molecular Biology. Dr. Nether also received Six Sigma training from GE Healthcare.

Education


Dr. Nether received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Medical Laboratory Sciences from the University of Illinois at Chicago, his master’s in medical informatics from Northwestern University, and his other master’s in healthcare administration from Oklahoma State University. He is certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Registry as a Medical Technologist and as a Specialist in Virology. Dr. Nether is also a certified Master Black Belt and Master Change Leader. He completed his Doctor of Health Sciences (D.H.Sc.) from A.T. Still University.
